Code Camp VIII Planning

Dates

The eighth SasView Code Camp will held in Lund, Sweden starting September 3rd 2018.

Travel and Accommodation

Hotel Suggestion

This is quite busy time in Lund and we don't have too many options

  • Elite Hotel Ideon https://www.elite.se/sv/hotell/lund/hotel-ideon/. 10 min by bus from Lund C. 15 min by bus and bike and 45 min walk to ESS site (where code camp will be held). They offer rooms with windows for 8802SEK for 7 nights and without windows (artifical windows) for 6996 SEK. Hotel Lobby is spacious and should be good for evening activities. There are few eating options close by but not that many. City center is 25min walk and 10min by bus, which gives more opportunities.
  • Lundia Hotel http://www.lundia.se/en/default.html, downtown Lund. 25min to ESS site by bus and 1h10min walk. They offer rooms for 10465 SEK for 7 nights. There are plenty of eating options close to hotel.

All hotel rates are for 7 nights (Sep 2nd to 9th) include breakfast and ESS discount.

Tour of ESS

We hope to arrange a tour of the ESS (now >40% complete). This may be on the morning of September 4th.

Getting to Lund/venue

See https://europeanspallationsource.se/contact/visitor-information

Bus 20 from the station to ESS site also passes the Ideon Elite Hotel (distinctive tower block with colour changing glass). Local buses are 25 SEK per trip (up to one hour ? with changes of bus allowed), but a pre-paid Jojo card or a phone app will give a 10% discount, see https://www.skanetrafiken.se/ then choose translate at top right. Note that your train ticket from Copenhagen or similar can be shown to the bus driver for an inclusive bus trip.

Check trains or buses here: http://www.reseplaneraren.skanetrafiken.se/querypage_adv.aspx where you can see maps of the routes.

Copenhagen airport is called "Copenhagen Kastrup", Lund railway station is "Lund C" for Lund Centrum, the Ideon Elite Hotel bus stop is "Lund Ideon Gateway" or "Elite Hotel Ideon".

Alas bus 20 does not run on a Saturday or Sunday. The easiest method is to take Bus 4 : Walk from station to stop B at "Lunde Ake Hans" for bus 4, then get off at "Lund Delfinen" and walk to hotel, there is a pedestrian path/cycleway that goes from that bus stop under the main roads and to the hotel.

Bus route maps and timetables are here:

Meals

Lunch

There is a lunch cabin on site that serves a daily meat and vegetarian set option for about 70 SEK - we can probably pre-order in the morning to save us all queuing. There are also vending fridges that we can get food from as needed - though the selection tends to have thinned out by 12:30, but they have snacks and cold drinks.

Dinner

Dinner on Saturday evening will be at my house in Lund.

If we want to eat together in town on the other evenings then many places will need a booking for the number we have. Suggestions are (bold are Andrew's personal recommendations, but everything on the list is fine) :
