Allow user changing of default model parameters

Adrian Rennie points out that when doing extensive fitting on a project it would be nice to be able to change the default parameters for a model (copy paste only does so much). This probably should be viewed in a larger context of saving individual preferences which can be changed on the fly and are read at startup.
